About the circuit

The track

Circuito Estoril lies in the hills above the coast between Cascais and Sintra, west of Lisbon. It opened in 1972 and hosted the Portuguese Formula 1 Grand Prix from 1984 to 1996; in 1985 Ayrton Senna won his first Formula 1 race here, in pouring rain. The motorcycle Grand Prix ran here for many years too. Today the 4.182 km lap hosts international races such as WorldSBK as well as national championships.

Signature corners

The long main straight ends in a heavy braking zone for turn 1. Further on, a slow hairpin section and the climb up the hill test traction, and the long final corner, the Parabólica named after Ayrton Senna, takes you back onto the straight.

Who it suits

Estoril rewards patience and a good exit from slow corners. Trackstr lists the circuit's own events, such as race weekends, festivals and classic meetings; trackdays at Estoril are not published on its calendar.

Getting there

The circuit is near Alcabideche, just off the A5 motorway from Lisbon to Cascais. Lisbon airport is about 30 minutes away by car.
